Brutalist Concrete Home - Nanaimo B.C.
On a cliffs edge of a family property in Nanaimo B.C. sits a durable, brutalist concrete home. This was challenging from a construction perspective, but the South Face team executed it flawlessly. Franc D’ambrosio remarks “I’m doing everything on my house that clients won’t let me do on their homes!”
And it shows: steel entrance canopy, cantilevered detached carport and workspace, beautiful light fixtures, and all site milled Douglas fir for millwork.
7 large window and door units draw you into the “Naka Niwa” courtyard from every perspective in the central house. The 12’ diameter open air oculus allows light and weather in the courtyard, and reflects off the adjacent window and doors.
We are incredibly thankful to all the team members, sub trades, consultants and the clients for making this project truly special.

Custom Home - Stephenson Point, Nanaimo B.C.
This Nanaimo, B.C. custom home renovation was a dated 1960’s build, with structural issues. South Face Construction completely gutted this home down to the studs, saving the existing western red cedar interior tongue and groove.
The home was transformed via Hansen Built Design’s thoughtful and curated lens. No expense was spared, and every sub contractor worked together to bring this spectacular ocean front home to life again.
With 45 windows, the home faces the Strait of Georgia and on clear days can see straight across to the City of Vancouver.

Carrige House - Stephenson Point, Nanaimo B.C.
This cute little Scandinavian Accessory Dwelling Unit in Nanaimo B.C. was designed by Hansen Built Design and custom built by South Face Construction. A perfect quaint bachelor pad on the top floor boasting vaulted maple plywood ceilings, and incredible natural light.
The exterior embodies minimalism: powder coated aluminum window bucks, vertical western red cedar siding, and a black metal roof.
The building envelope uses Siga Wigluv weather barrier, and a Siga Majrex interior air barrier. Air Tightness score: .35 ACH/50PA
